Sounds and Music

Finding sound and music for animation shorts SUCKS. I’m no musician and in these days with Intellectual Property being draconically enforced sampling is dead without a team of lawyers.

There are a couple of Public Domain and Royalty Free music sites, but they only sell CDs with the music, beats and effects. ??? Maye it’s time to hit the library.

Almost 2006

Haven’t had much time to work on my animation. Been reading much on Buddhist and Taoist traditions. Added Avatar: the Last Airbender to my watch list too.

Finally got a VCD of my various animation tests finished. You can download a copy here. After you burn it to CD you can play it in any DVD player.

Hey, it even comes with cover art!

new old archives

Found an old backup that had two extra months of BtF archives. So enjoy March and April 2003. Lots of visuals for Hermit Joe.

New Stuff

Recent acquisitions: The complete Invader Zim, The complete 12 oz. Mouse (to date), Masters of Russian Animation vols 1 & 3, The complete Samauri Champloo, The complete Paranoia Agent, The complete 2 Stupid Dogs, animation of the AMAZING Don Hertzfeldt, and tonight, 21 films by Norman Mclaren from 1940-1983! That stuff is impossible to find all in one place. I need a DVD burner bad.

I’ve gotten a lot done on the Monk Joe script. It should translate to a storyboard and dope sheet very easily. It’s becoming very clear in my head. I’ll hopefully have it done and posted before Christmas.

Back home

It’s nice to be back home. Bringing my camera on the trip was useless. I didn’t do any animation. I’m working on a interstitial for Adult Swim. stop-mo. Two boxing skeletons (Thanks Moms) spelling out [ adult swim ] on a small chalk board above them. Maybe this weekend I’ll get the chance.

Did do a lot of work on Monk Joe (need to change that name). Finished the initial script. Now to fine-tune it and work on the dope sheet.

I’m doing it pure, traditional stop-mo. Only the puppets and props will take up the most of my time. The sets will be done primarily with cut-outs, stood up like paper dolls. Should save me a lot of time and money.

I’m worried about the full sets though. I picture a lot of long shots and I’m not sure I have the space here to create sets that large. Maybe in the shed. hmmmm.

on the road

Seems to be a common theme.

Favorite shows: Samauri Champloo, Teen Titans, Full Metal Alchemist, Inuyasha, 12oz Mouse, Squidbillies, Venture Bros, SpongeBob, Avatar, Cat Scratch.

Still watching Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Miyazaki is amazing.

Finished the outline for the first ep of Monk Joe. I should be able to fill in the [current project] section soon.

BtF reborn

Spent most of the past two days setting up this site and importing old information. I still haven’t imported the old entries, but the site is functional. I have a new test to post. “Trouble” made from clay and bits and pieces. No plan when I was animating. Just freeform until my storage card was filled up.

Been relearning “the process”. Which tools to use. Moving from raw sets of images to something you can play in your DVD player or make available digitally.

Just like starting over…..

This isn’t really a first post, as I am continuing the animation blog I left off two years ago. To do: Import old site info, including clips, images and posts.

Briefly though, Hermit Joe has under gone some major changes in the past two years.
