Replacing Audacity

So I’m trying to mix the soundtrack for “Chicken Feed” and working in Audacity has been a bitch. A couple of Google searches later turned up this link.

The article talks about using JACK, Ardour, and xjadeo. Ardour seems to be the most popular current alternative to Audacity. What struck me was the xjadeo plugin. It ties the scrub timeline of an multi-track audio project in Ardour directly to a video time line. woohoo.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Congrats Pen!

This is great news. Adventure Time is going to be great if they give Pen full control.

Don’s so Proud

Don Hertzfeldt’s new film, “I Am So Proud Of You”, is in the can and he’s doing a speaking tour with it. Now if we can just get it down here….. If I only knew someone that could handle booking an animation screening in Atlanta….

From Bob Godfrey

“There’s no point in doing something in animation that could be done very much quicker or much easier in live-action. Animation should deal with surreal things, with fantastic things, impossible things, because there are no limitations in animation. The only limitations there are are within the animators themselves. There’s nothing you can’t do. This is the terrifying thing about it, this is the exciting thing about it. You name it, it can be done in animation.”

OK, so I love the first part, but the myth of “no limitations in animation” has to be busted one of these days.

Animation Attack

So Animation Attack was fantastic. Brett, Eric, Tak, Bryan and everyone else did another fabulous job. The lineup and screens are over here:

Some of my faves:

Captain Old’s Adventures in Mumbleland – Fran Krause
Traditional animation. A series of crazy sight gags strung together in a style reminiscent of Plympton’s best work.

Golden Age – Aaron Augenblick
This is the same guy involved with “Bar Fight” and “Super Jail”. Brilliant and hilarious. The shorts were peppered throughout the first night. It was a VH1 behind the music type look at loose copies of Mickey, Alvin and the Chimpmonks, Addam’s Family. The Home for Half-baked Cartoons was incredible. They were the hit of day 1. You can see them at:

and, oh shit, born in Wilmington? Greetz to Concord Pike Freak Squad. (damn, I’m way too fucking old to be saying “greetz”.)

Kings of Power 4 Billion % – Paul Robertson
The anime/sega/nintendo-pixelized-mondo fight scene that never ends. This was not for everyone, especially motion epileptics, but I fucking loved it.

Download of the full film: http://probertson.livejournal.com/23973.html
and download of his old short “Pirate Babys Cabana Battle Street Fight”: http://probertson.livejournal.com/18096.html

Moonraker – Fran Krause
Traditional 2D and the same style as Fran’s other short. Very carefree and enjoyable.

Frog – Chris Conforti
Another fun one. The frog’s trip through some poor guy’s intestine had the theater howling.

God of Tears – Max Margulies, Naoko Masuda
I’m not even sure where to start with this one. It was my favorite of the bunch. If Svankmeyer worked for Art Clokey as an innocent young boy he may have made something like this. Max and Naoko flew down from Philadelphia for the fest. It was a pleasure to meet them both and I can’t wait to see more from them.

Maniacal – Em Kempf
And Atlanta gal Em’s wonerful Maniacal. It was great seeing it again.

Marvelous, Keen, Loony Bin – Lizzi Akana
Wow. Monkeys with balloon heads navigating through “low hanging cactus”, anthropomorphic baked goods, an armless man that gets his packages mixed with a legless man, wow, just wow!

MUTO – BLU
You’ve probably seen this online but nothing beats seeing a pristine digital copy projected on the big screen.
